Grass Pitch Improvement

Find out more about our 10-year plan to transform the quality of grass pitches across the country

Our ambition is to improve 20,000 grass football pitches across the country over the next 10 years. We want to make sure our grassroots game has the quality surfaces it deserves.

Better pitches. Better matches. More often.

We know that better quality pitches create a better experience for everyone. However, all too often adverse weather can lead to the poor playing surfaces and fixture-less weekends up and down the country. Whilst we can't change the weather, we can do a few simple things to ensure this is no longer a regular occurrence and more people are playing on better pitches, more often.

Get ready for PitchPower

A new and simple tool to help inspect and improve grass pitches, and help us achieve our ambition to transform grass pitches right across England.  It enables a faster, digital service and on a greater scale than ever before.

It will enable;

  • Increased capacity - more pitches will be improved each year.
  • Greater efficiency - recommendations will be issued faster.
  • Better insight - it will provide improved data on quality of pitches.
  • Innovation - attracting the next generation of grounds people.

We are deliberately having a controlled roll out with targeted comms to specific users.   Please only sign-up and submit your inspection if you have been contacted by the Football Foundation or your Engagement Manager. This is essential so we do not overburden the GMA service.

Get qualified

The Grounds Management Association (GMA) is the leading not-for-profit membership organisation that supports and celebrates grounds professionals and volunteers. As well as providing advice and guidance, the GMA also offer a wide range of industry-specific training courses and qualifications to help upskill groundspeople.
