The Football Foundation has issued a £52,000 grant to North Ferriby United FC, which will ensure the growth of grassroots football in the local area.

The clubs ageing Youth Development Centre had fallen into disrepair and has been replaced with a new state-of-the-art 3G playing surface complete with floodlights and fencing at a total cost of £160,000. This will provide members and general users from the local and surrounding areas with a safe environment in which increased participation can be facilitated.

Funded by the Premier League, The FA, and the Government via Sport England, the Football Foundation is the country’s largest sports charity. Since it was launched in 2000, the Foundation has awarded around 8,000 grants worth more than £420m towards improving grassroots sport, which it has used to attract additional partnership funding of over £520m.

Club Chairman Les Hare, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this wonderful grant which will enable us to complete the renovation of our dilapidated coaching centre. This facility is the cornerstone of our football in the community development plans and will be a fitting legacy of Football Foundation funding.”

Local MP, the Rt Hon David Davis, said: “I am thrilled that North Ferriby United are to benefit from Football Foundation funding. In recent years North Ferriby United have really excelled on the pitch. The £52,000 will be a real boost to the facilities of an already successful local team.”

Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “I commend North Ferriby United FC and East Riding County FA for working tirelessly to secure this funding and I look forward to seeing the end result in the near future.

“This year is an exciting time for sport in this country and a tremendous opportunity to create a grassroots legacy. The hosting of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will inspire generations of people up and down the country to reap the rewards that sport has to offer. The Football Foundation is dedicated, with funding provided from the Premier League, The FA and government, to raising the standard of grassroots community sports facilities and to getting more people actively playing the national sport.”
