It was a day out to remember for a group of grassroots football coaches as they were invited to meet Everton duo Roberto Martinez and Steven Naismith on Tuesday (25 February) as Barclays Premier League title sponsor Barclays thanked the coaches for their commitment to the local community.
Coaches from the football teams who use the Arncliffe Sports & Community Centre in Arncliffe Road had the privilege of meeting manager Martinez and forward Naismith at Everton’s Finch Farm training ground to quiz them on life in the Barclays Premier League in an exclusive Q&A and autograph session. They then got their kit on for a special training session with Toffees coaches followed by lunch at the club’s academy.
The centre is one of 200 community sports sites that Barclays has built with partners the Football Foundation.
The coaches were chosen by Barclays because of their valuable work in helping teach and facilitate grassroots football in the community. This season, Barclays is identifying community groups to visit each Barclays Premier League club as part of its campaign to thank fans and community heroes.
David Wheldon, Managing Director of Brand, Reputation, Citizenship & Marketing at Barclays, commented: “This season Barclays is saying thank you to community heroes across the UK who help make the Barclays Premier League what it is today. Football coaches at grassroots level dedicate hours of their time to help local community teams improve and learn more about the values of the game. The coaches who use the Arncliffe Sports & Community Centre work hard to coach football in the local area and deserve this day out as a thank you for their dedication.”
