Barclays says Thank you to community heroes with exclusive event at Manchester United
Manchester United stars Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher greeted a group of grassroots coaches and volunteers at Carrington on Thursday (May 1) for an exclusive event as Barclays Premier League title sponsor Barclays thanked the coaches for their commitment to the local community.
The group, from Old Trafford Sports Barn and the Trafford Community Leisure Trust, met United midfielders Carrick and Fletcher at the club's Carrington training complex for a unique Q&A session that saw the duo answering questions on life as a Barclays Premier League footballer.
Old Trafford Sports Barn is a Barclays Spaces for Sports site, one of 200 community sports sites that Barclays has built with partners the Football Foundation. The coaches associated with the site were chosen for this reward by Barclays because of the valuable work they do in the community.
Bernie Jones, Chief Executive of Trafford Community Leisure Trust, said: "All the coaches and volunteers were thrilled with the afternoon at Manchester United. The two players were more than generous with their time and answered some difficult questions. Our staff loved it and we can't thank Barclays enough. It's a great way to end the season."
David Wheldon, Managing Director of Brand, Reputation, Citizenship & Marketing at Barclays, commented: “This season Barclays is saying thank you to community heroes across the UK who help make the Barclays Premier League what it is. Volunteers who give up their time to help run football sessions for young people are a vital part of the community. This group of coaches from Old Trafford Sports Barn and the Trafford Community Leisure Trust are deserving of this day out as thank you for their dedication and hard work.”
