Participation

It is important to fill out the participation section of the application form accurately to provide a realistic overview of participation at the site.

We do not want you to exaggerate the number of teams that you plan to create as a result of the investment. As a condition of the grant you will be required to report annually on how you are meeting the targets set out below.

Football participation - included within the Football Development Plan (FDP)

This is your key partner Clubs. This should be the number of teams in each category. We use FA standard squad sizes to calculate how many players relate to each team. 

  • Please do not include curricular school teams (PE lessons), but do include extra-curricular school teams. We are already aware of curricular use through Edubase.
  • Do not count away teams as they are not regular users. If your site is used as a centre for all league matches then both teams can be counted.
  • Remember we are looking at football not just played on a the Football Turf Pitch (FTP) but also on your grass pitch(es). Be careful not to double count here though as the teams that use the grass pitch for a match may train on the FTP midweek. Only count each team once.

 

Football participation - not included within the FDP

This is a catch-all for any other football be it other clubs, soccer schools, 5-a-side leagues etc. which are not in your FDP. 

  • We are interested in regular users, that is, participants who will use the site at least once a month during the season.
  • Do not count participants in one-off events or holiday courses. They do not play ‘regularly’ at the site.
  • Do not count away teams as they are not regular users. If your site is used as a centre for all league matches then both teams can be counted.

 

Non-football participation

  • This includes all non-football activity across the whole site including any sports halls, MUGAs and swimming pools you have at the funded site. Again, this is the number of regular users. Do not multiply them by each week, or each use.
  • Please count these individual regular users in the same way that you count non-FDP football users.

 

Key points on participation at the funded site

  1. We count individual regular users. Do not count individuals twice.
  2. Please be realistic in the increases you are aiming for. You will be monitored on this annually.
  3. Do not include curricular use in schools. Do count extra-curricular use.
  4. Do not count away teams.
  5. In setting targets for the future please remember that grass pitches can only accommodate a limited number of playing hours.
